Why does hookah get harsh?
There could be a variety of reasons because you never know how everyone smokes, so I’m going to explain in detail why this happens and what solutions you can try.
The first common reason is that if you start smoking directly after replacing the charcoal, the temperature of the new charcoal is too high, which will directly burn the surface of the tobacco.
Another reason is that the smoking methods are different when shared by many people. Some people smoke vigorously and burn the tobacco early.we explain a lot about how to smoke properly, if you haven’t learned yet you can click to view our article on how to smoke hookah properly on the blog
Improper Setup – Issues like an overpacked bowl, obstructed airflow, or leaks in the hookah can concentrate heat unevenly and create harshness. How do you fix a harsh hookah?
In order to fundamentally avoid the above problems, I also provide some suggestions to help you solve them effectively. These methods have been actually used by us, and the results are very good.
You can do this by
1. Proper Packing
Make sure your shisha tobacco is fluffed and not packed too tightly. It should be just below the rim of the bowl to allow proper airflow.
2. Stir Tobacco
Gently mix the shisha in the bowl using a pick. Bring fresher tobacco to the top for a temporary harshness fix.
3. Additionally, when replacing coals, do not immediately add new coals. Instead, wait a moment or use the “Mickey Method” to limit contact between new and spent coals.
4. We spend 10-15 minutes slowly preheating the tobacco before starting to use it. Gradually increasing the heat gives the shisha time to adjust and avoids singing it. Proper preheating is key to preventing harshness.
5.Also, promptly remove any fallen coal debris. Then, carefully control the number and position of coals to ensure even heat distribution. This is important because I have seen many, many novice smokers get harshness due to uneven burning.
